Have you ever heard this quote before? “You miss 100% of the shots you don’t take”
Hummmmmm
I disagree.
How is it possible to miss a shot you don’t take? You’re in the basketball court, standing on the free throw line, and you don’t take the shot. Does the score to from 78 to 77 on the score board?
NO.
You can’t possibly miss the shot you don’t take. Often you should only take the shots you have a chance of making.
Why?
It’s the best use of your time.
Let me explain… Today I was reading a post in a group and the store owner was upset because a customer claimed to only receive one ring, not the two she ordered. OK, she was being scammed. It’s not nice. It’s not great… but what do you do?
Do you take a shot and send an email explaining to the woman she was full of poo?
Or do you move on with your day, refund the ring, and focus on the other customers you have that bring you more money…
There are always options -but if you don’t have a procedure, you might not recognize the option that’s best.
Procedures help build consistency. And consistency helps you move forward toward your goals.
So it’s not that you will miss 100% of the shots you don’t take… but choosing what you shoot at will keep you on track toward your goals.
It’s easy to get angry and distracted these days. But “eye on the prize” let’s keep it going forward.
